Change to the RSS feed

April 08th, 2007

I’ve decided to go with FeedBurner to distribute my RSS feed.  If you’re subscribed to the DerekAllard.com feed (thanks if you are!) could you please update your RSS feed to point to http://feeds.feedburner.com/derekallardcom.

I’m going to make efforts to keep the old feed alive for a little while, but please make the update now.

Thanks for reading!

What prompted the change, Derek?  If it’s tracking, I’ve really been enjoying Mint 2.0’s tracking of my feeds.

I use slimstat to track stats on the site, and it handles the feed stats no problem.  Actually, slimstat is great.  I’ve used Mint before also, and think its very slick.  The change was actually prompted by a few things:

- I wanted to see what it was all about
- I’m toying with the idea of monetizing the feed - not terribly likely, but a possibility.  Maybe a 3% chance, but hey, keep my options open.
- The feed accounts for more traffic then any other page.  Bandwidth isn’t a problem, but I thought I’d off-load some of it.
- Feedburner handles the Atom conversion for me automatically if I wanted to use it.

The biggest factor here though, is actually just experimentation. ;)

Derek, you should also make some redirection from your old RSS feed to feedburner
